Railway Transport in South Sudan

The newly independent South Sudan has one rail connection, entering its territory from the Republic of Sudan. A 248 kilometer single track railway connects Babanusa to Wau Town and it runs from Bur Sudan   i.e. Port Sudan on the Red Sea.

The line was reinstated in 2010 with funding from United Nations, after being destroyed in the long civil war. Plans are under way to build a railway network to enhance internal transport and   link South Sudan with all its neighbors as part of its contribution to an African network.
