Background and Geography of Mauritania

Mauritania is located in northwestern Africa, bordered by Western Sahara (occupied by Morocco) and Algeria in the north, Mali on the east and south, Senegal in the southwest, and the Atlantic Ocean on the west.

Mountains

Mount Kediet ej Jill is the highest mountain in Mauritania at 915 meters. It is located in Tiris Zemmour, north of the country.

Longest River: The Senegal River which is the longest runs along Mauritania’s southern border with Senegal and it is Mauritania’s only all year-round river.

National Parks: Mauritania has 2 main National Parks and the largest is Banc d’Arguin National Park with an area of 12,000 Square kilometers
