Background and geography of Malawi

Malawi is a long thin landlocked country located in southeast Africa with Mozambique to the east and south, Zambia to the west, and Tanzania to the north. It is separated from Mozambique and Tanzania to a large extent by Lake Malawi, which lies on the country’s eastern edge.

Malawiis divided into 28 districts located in three regions.


The Mulanje Massif, also known as Mount Mulanje is the highest mountain in Malawi reaching up to 3002 meters.It is located in southern Malawi near the city of Blantyre.

Longest River: Shire River is the longest river of Malawi. It is 402 kilometers long.

National Parks: Malawi has 9 national parks, the largest being Nyika National Parkwhich covers an area of 3,200 square kilometers.
