Transport system in Monrovia Liberia

Monrovia is the capital city of Liberia in West Africa, located on the Atlantic Coast with a population of over 1 million people. The city covers a number of small islands and peninsulas divided by lagoons. The common means of transport in Monrovia include the following;

Bus

Buses under the guidance of National Transit Authority (NTA) provide transport with the city. The buses also connect Monrovia with other upcountry urban areas including Buchanan, Gbarnga, Tubmanburg, Kakata and Robertsport.

Shared taxis

Shared Taxis which are yellow in colour and operate on zone basis   carry a number of  passengers  to different city destinations.

Railway

Railways in Liberia comprised two lines from the port of Monrovia in the northeast with a 3ft gauge line running inland from Monrovia for about 145km and one line from the port of Buchanan in the centre.

Special Hire Taxis

Private hire taxis commonly parked around public areas can be hired to take you to different parts of the city and country.
