The Executive of Burundi

The executive authority of Burundi is vested in the President of Burundi, who also acts as head of state and the Fountain of Honour, exercised in accordance with this Constitution and the laws of Burundi, the President is assisted by the Vice President, Prime Minister and Cabinet Ministers.

The President is responsible for implementing and enforcing the laws written by Parliament and, also appoints the Cabinet. The chief executive in Burundi typically has a term length of 5 years.

He nominates two vice-presidents, who form together with the Council of Ministers the executive branch. The president is elected by the people

The Vice President is also part of the Executive Branch, ready to assume the Presidency should the need arise.

The Cabinet consists of the President, two Vice-presidents and such number of Ministers as may appear to the President to be reasonably necessary for the efficient running of the State.

Cabinet Ministers are appointed by the President Cabinet with the approval of Parliament from among members of Parliament or persons qualified to be elected members of Parliament.
