Background and Geography of Botswana

The Republic of Botswana is a landlocked country located in Southern Africa. It is bordered by Namibia on the west of north, Zambia on the narrow strip of north, Zimbabwe on the east and South Africa on the east and south.

Botswana is divided into 16 administrative districts: 10 rural districts and 6 urban districts with central district being the largest covering an area of 147,730 square kilometres.

The South East District is the smallest of Botswana’s Districts, occupying an area of only 1492 square kilometres.


Botswana has hills with Tsodilo being the highest at 1489 meters.
