Location
Lake Albert is found in East Africa on the border of  Uganda with  the Democratic Republic of Congo. It has a surface area of 5,300 sq km and a maximum length and width of 160 and 30 km respectively. It has a maximum depth of 51 meters. It is the seventh largest lake in Africa and therefore it is among the African Great Lakes. The lake is found in the Albertine Rift, the western branch of the East African Rift. The lake is 260 km from Kampala, the capital city of Uganda.

Rivers
The Victoria Nile and Semlik rivers flow into the lake and the Albert Nile takes the water out of the lake.

Oil discovery in Lake Basin
Uganda has found a multi-billion barrel oil field in the Lake Albert basin which is said to be  the largest onshore field found in sub-Saharan Africa in recent past.

Fish stock in the lake.
There is a reduced stock of fish in the lake due to over-fishing to satisfy local and fish processors demand and the use of illegal  fishng gear.
