South Africa is a country rich in natural resources, including gold, chromium, antimony, coal, iron ore, manganese, nickel, phosphates, tin, uranium, gem diamonds, platinum, copper, vanadium, salt and natural gas as seen below

Natural gas

South Africa produces about 930,000 tonnes of natural gas.

Coal

South Africa has the world’s ninth largest recoverable coal reserves and holds 95 percent of Africa’s total coal reserves. The production are estimated to be between 60 billion and 100 billion tons

Platinum

South Africa produces over 750 000 ounces of platinum.

Gold

South Africa is currently estimated to have the world’s largest quantity of gold reserves with 6000 tonnes. For instance South Africa’s annual gold production in 2012 was close to 220 tonnes.

Diamond

South Africa produces roughly 15, 8000,000 carats about 3.2 tonnes of diamond making the country one of the most significant diamond producing countries in the world.

Chromium

South Africa produces an estimated 2.8 million tons of chromium

Manganese

South Africa contains the largest known deposits of manganese ore in the world with 12.5 billion tons.

Iron ore

South Africa is the largest producer of iron ore on the continent, with reserves estimated at more than 9.4 billion tons.

Wildlife

South Africa has 29 National Parks covering a total area of 37,000 square kilometres. The national parks include; Karoo National Park, Tsitsikamma National Park, Augrabies Falls National Park, Golden Gate Highlands National Park, Mountain Zebra National Park, Bontebok National Park, Marakele National Park, Wilderness National Park, Ai-Ais Richtersveld Transfrontier Park, Mapungubwe National Park, Namaqua National Park, Ithala Game Reserve, West Coast National Park, Agulhas National Park, Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve, Mkuze Game Reserve, Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, Addo Elephant Park, Camdeboo National Park, Table Mountain National Park, Knysna National Lake Area, Pilanesberg Game Reserve, Kruger Park, Mokala National Park, Tankwa Karoo National Park.

The animals in national parks include; Buffalo, black eagle, antelope species, rhino, lion, elephant, leopard and Black Wildebeest.
