Algeria is officially known as The People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria. It is found in North Africa in the Maghreb region. The country is bordered in the northeast by Tunisia, in the east by Libya, in the west by Morocco, in the southwest by Western Sahara, Mauritania, and Mali, in the southeast by Niger, and in the north by the Mediterranean Sea.
Algeria is the largest country in Africa and the 10th largest country in the world. The country covers 2,381,741 km2 of land and it has a 998 km coastline along the Mediterranean Sea. 80 per cent of Algeria is covered by Sahara Desert.
Algeria has an estimated population of 39.1 million people making it the 33rd most populous country of the world.
The coastal region of Algeria has winter temperatures averaging between 10° to 12° C and summer temperatures ranging from 24° to 26° C. Inland into Algeria, winters average 4° to 6° C and summers, 26° to 28° C. In the Sahara Desert vary between –10° to 34° C with daily variations of more than 44° C.
